Holocaust Memorial Day 2012
Every year the council marks Holocaust Memorial Day by inviting all residents to attend a special ceremony to remember those who lost their lives through genocide.
The ceremony, held on Sunday 22 January 2012, which starts with a civic procession in Hendon led by the Mayor of Barnet, culminates in a range of special guests talking in front of an audience about their own personal experiences.
This year’s theme is ‘Speak Up, Speak Out’ and guests will be encouraged to remember the past, reflect on the present and react tocreate a better future.
In attendance will be The Worshipful the Mayor of the London Borough of Barnet, Councillor Lisa Rutter, and the Leader of theCouncil, Councillor Richard Cornelius.
The London Cantorial Singers and Alyth Youth Singers choir groups will perform.

Spiralling fuel costs and food poverty are just some of the issues to be addressed through BIG’s Communities Living Sustainably programme which aims to inspire people to adapt the way they live, work and engage with each other to reap financial, environmental and health gains.
They are particularly keen to see vulnerable people benefitting by making greener choices that will help them reduce their costs and improve their quality of life.
