Calling community organisations' reps to become 2011 Census Advisors!
CommUNITY Barnet is actively involved in the 2011 Census preparation. It is hoped local community organisations can encouraged all communities leaving in Barnet to take part in the Census. This is the opportunity to help the wide variety of communities to make their mark in the 2011 Census!
It is especially important to gather information from new and unaccounted communities. Hence, applications for Census Community Advisors are now open and speakers of the following languages are encouraged to apply: Bengali, Somali, Portuguese, French, Arabic or Yoruba, Mandarin or Cantonese, Punjabi, Gujarati, Tamil or Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi, Mirpuri or Pahari.
This is your chance to inform this significant data collection exercise that would inform policy and government funds allocation! Think about it, if your community needs and views are documented then the higher the possibility of having informed and diverse policies that could also cater for your community or users.

About the role
The primary aim of Community Advisors will be to actively engage with specific ethnic groups to raise awareness and understanding of the 2011 Census and to encourage their participation. Community Advisors could already be well-connected within the community or ordinary citizens with a knack for talking to a wide variety of people. Either way, they will need basic conversational skills in certain languages, so they can confidently communicate with their target community. While Community Advisors are based in specific local authorities, they will be available to advise Area Managers in other areas, if required.

Applications will be accepted from 17 May 2010.
Please note the main recruitment campaign, which will include roles such as coordinators, enumerators, collectors, managers and interviewers is due to start in the next months.
