Support Local Community Projects: Join the Big Society Innovation Bank Panel

The Big Society Innovation Bank is a new fund set up by Barnet Council. It aims to help kick-start community projects and support the long-standing creativity and entrepreneurial spirit of civil society in the Borough. Existing groups, new groups and individuals are able to apply for funds towards new initiatives, developing new ideas and starting new projects.

The fund will run from 2011 for 3 years. Each year groups and individuals will be able to submit their ideas; from these about 30 will be invited to complete full applications.

The council wants the community to be closely involved in this fund to ensure that successful bids really meet its needs.

CommUNITY Barnet are now looking for representatives from the community to form a Community Assessment Panel to consider short-listed bids and approve the level of money awarded in each case. The panel will be chaired by Cllr Robert Rams, the Cabinet member overseeing the Big Society Innovation Bank. Panel members will serve for a year, for one or two panel meetings.

If you are interested, you will need to have time to read through applications and attend the panel meetings.

We are looking for wide representation from all of Barnet’s diverse communities, including young people, the over-55s, and people experiencing disabilities.

All those who have lived in Barnet for at least a year are welcome to join the panel. We are also looking for people who have a background in business and entrepreneurship.
