Our spring training programme focuses on the key areas of fundraising and finance. We provide expert guidance on fundraising strategies and outcomes and on the legal requirements and best practice for your financial management.

External Financial Reporting - Annual Accounts
Date: Wednesday 22 February 2012
Time: 10am – 4pm
Venue: Richmond Fellowship, 52 Moxon Street, Barnet EN5 5TS
If you are incorporated as a company or charity with annual incomes exceeding 10 thousand pounds you are expected to prepare annual accounts and distribute this to stakeholders. We are giving you the chance to come and brush up on or learn about latest legal requirements and best practice in preparing the year–end accounts.
Outcomes: By the end of the session you will have increased your skills in preparation of SORP compliant accounts.
Topics covered include:
- Understanding the reporting requirements of SORP
- Preparation of SOFA and Balance Sheet
- The need for Audit or Independent Examination

Fundraising Strategy
Date: Tuesday 28 February 2012

A fundraising strategy will ensure that you are not dependent on one source of funding and it should be developed before you start making funding applications. It will help you to plan and prioritise your work, and could ultimately help increase your income.
Outcomes:
By the end of the day you will be able to:
- understand and convey to your staff / stakeholders the importance of taking a long-term view in terms of strategy
- recognise how a fundraising strategy fits in with your overall business / strategic plan
- begin to plan and prioritise your fundraising

- the importance and development of a fundraising strategy
- short and long-term planning
- diversifying income sources
This workshop is aimed at:
- any organisation that either has no formal fundraising strategy in place or needs to revisit an existing one
- anyone involved with planning and/or fundraising – staff and/or trustees

Financial Planning - Using Budgets and Cash Flow Forecasting

Planning is fundamental to the success of any organisation. All activities have financial implications and need to be provided for ahead of time, especially in these tough times. Funders require you to include budgets to support your application.
Outcomes: By the end of the session you will improve your budgeting skills.

In these challenging times, using Outcomes is vital to ensure that we stay motivated and focused on the needs of our beneficiaries and that our work is efficient, effective and sustainable. The skills are relevant and important whether we are completing application forms or considering going down the commissioning route (you will have to demonstrate added value and that you will make a difference). It helps with your planning, prioritising, management and development.
Outcomes:
By the end of the day you will:
- have an increased understanding of what outcomes (and other terms) are and are not
- be more aware of the benefits of using outcomes
- be better able to identify outcomes relevant for your work
- have an improved understanding of how to monitor outcomes

- the terminology and meanings
- your organisation’s Mission, Aims and Objectives
- identifying outcomes
- linking outcomes to planning
- first steps towards monitoring and evaluation
This workshop is aimed at:
Anyone involved in planning and/or fundraising, notably fundraisers, managers and trustees. The training is important and relevant for all types and size of organisation - small, medium or large, new, growing or well established. You are strongly encouraged to come with a colleague, preferably a trustee. Past participants have emphasised how useful this has been in achieving effective and long-term change.

Bookkeeping - Essentials
Date: Wednesday 28 March 2012

Recording transactions is good practice for all organisations and funders want to make sure you have systems in place to look after the funds given to you. Without adequate written records, and the documents to support them, it is impossible to control your finances or to prepare financial reports.
Outcomes: By the end of the session you will be able to set up an effective record keeping system.

- Bank accounts, cash books
- The Imprest system of petty cash
- Balancing and controlling your cash and petty cash books
